I am attempting to replace my waterpump impeller on my 1988 35 HP Mercury. (Motor is new to me) I have loosened the nuts on both sides & the one above the prop. There is no movement of the lower unit at all. The manual I have (SELOC) is not very clear about the shift rod - if there is a mechanical connection or not. Looking at the top of the rod (behind and below the carb) I can see what looks like an allen set screw, but nothing seems to fit. Should I whack the lower unit to get it free? Any insight is appreciated!
