Lower unit swap, but whats wrong with reverse??

Hi guys, i had to buy a new lower unit cause i destroyed mine on a rock a couple of weeks ago. I installed the new one but am having a problem with reverse. It goes forward reguardless of which way i go on remote!! It only revs forward on Foward and revs foward on reverse as well!! Any help is appreciated!!! Thanks in advance...Martin

you must have the gear shift rod in wrong

if its a mercruise outdrive you have to put the shifter in forward gear when you take the outdrive off and back on and you have to make sure the by looking under the outdrive when installing there is a rod that the cable goes out to in the gimbal housing and slides together with a c channel type coupler on the outdrive. if not careful you can bend or break this as it goes back together. don't ask me how I know!!

You will surely have to adjust the linkage that controls the movement from fwd to rev. There should be a threaded rod or adjusting nut on a cable. I only really know my personal Suzuki well but they are all simular.

without knowing a model number or an engine manufacturer all I can say is ya done something wrong.
