Re: Lower unit swap

for the fuss, a rookie might be better off , buying used LU and just bolting it in....if you love challenges...have at it

I bought a super long neck pair of needle nosed pliers and ground the tips down to remove the c-clip in my 1988 70 hp LU

I totally agreed about getting another LU. Found one on e-bay for 300.00 I appreciate all of the input concerning LU. By the way are there any gaskets or seal I will need to replace when I go to install LU?

Das, It was my impression that you could tap the upper driveshaft into the new SEI gearcase, w/o issue. Of course that requires to already have one. And if pulling the Upper DS out of your old gearcase bends the clip in the old gearcase, so what, since you are not planning to use it anyway..

is that not it?
