I just got a rebuilt/exchanged lower unit for my 1998 Evinrude 175hp OceanPro 60 degrees and already installed it. However, I have a concern, the lower unit is attached already and tighten with the proper torque, but there is a gap of about 1 milimeter or less in some sections around the perimeter of the joint, I can even see thru the other side. Is that normal? or I'm doing something wrong. I'm following the factory service manual, but still concerned. I will appreciate your feedback.

That cannot be right. Something internally is not fully inserted where it is supposed to be. Since you've torqued things, it's probably something substantial, like the driveshaft, but could also be something else in there.

I'm sure this fit together tightly before, and should again.

Some of them are made with a step in the mating surfaces. Lets water drain out of the mid-section. Look close and see whether your sllok like the gaps are even and in the same place on each side.

Ok, I'm back, still have some trim problems. What Walker said makes sense. CATransplant, both sections are tight metal to metal, with exception of some areas where it won't make contact because of the mating steps that Walker is mentioning. I will ask my mechanic on tuesday. I wanted to go out during this long weekend but I need to replace the valve body assembly of my hydraulic assy. (trim) unless i find a place here in Miami that opens Sundays :( Thanks for your fast response.
