Lower unit tool?

I need to work on the lower unit and there are tools to easily and properly remove the retainer. So in my manual it does not identify which one is which. Maybe someone can tell me the tool # for the 50hp Mariner 3cyl. I looked in the marine store on here and couldn't get the search to turn up which one I needed.

those are expensive and normally used by the average guy very seldom. Normally you can rent one from your local marine dealer. I actually made one from pipe nipple, a pipe flange and square stock. If I can find the pics I'll post them for you.

Prop tool 001.jpgProp tool 002.jpgSpanner and gro-lite 002.jpgTex60 I finally found the pics. The first pic is the parts you'll need. After welding them together, I took the retaining nut and laid it on the flange and shot it with a little bit of paint to know exactly where I needed to weld the 1/4" pieces of square stock I cut. The pipe nipple fits right over the prop shaft and the nut welded to the top allows for a torque wrench. You'll have to check your manual for torque specs on your particular retainer, but it worked great. Total cost, about $15 and a little of my time.
