Lower unit vent & fill plug gaskets?

I just purchased a '97 Sea Pro with a '97 Force 90HP outboard. In going over the motor, I noticed that there are a few very small milky streaks in the lower unit oil (the oil looks very good except for the streaks).

I also noticed that the vent plug and the fill plug do not have any type of "O" ring or gasket, while the lower drain plug has a fiber or plastic gasket on it.

Without a gasket, wouldn't water seep in around the screw threads?

The parts drawing shows a gasket on the screws.

Can anyone tell me whether they have vent and fill screws without gaskets?

Thanks, Jeff

There should be gaskets on both, Jeff. Failure to use a new gasket every time the plugs are removed/reseated is the most common cause of water in the gearcase.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll get new gaskets for each of the plugs.

I'll check it again after I run it in the water a couple of times.

You can get everything you need at West Marine or Iboats should be able to ship them to you. If you don't mind waiting about a week you will spend less getting them from this site.
