lower unit wont come off

i have a 1996 50hp force trying to replace the impeller took out the 4 bolts and the LU droped about an inch and wont go any further i have a manuel and it doesnt say to do anything else that i can see so if you know whats stopping it from comming off please respond asap!!!<br />thanx <br />Warren

Warren,<br /><br />Out of pure curiosity, what ended up happening? What did you do to get the unit off? The reason for the question is this same thing has happened to me and I ended up giving up and taking it to a shop. They never told me what they did to get it off.

well to be honest i didnt know about the shift linkage the book i bought had 3 different LUs and me being a novice i didnt know which one pertained to me. Anyway once i disconnected the linkage the darn thing slide down and hit my shin and foot! so next time ill know to take the linkage apart first!!!!<br />and the motor is a 1994 50hp force hope this helps
