All-

Really fairly maddening. We've pulled all of the bolts, even the "hidden" one. It won't drop. We've tapped it, hammered it, etc. Nothing seems to work. Any idea of what the problem is?

Thanks much in advance.

The only other thing I can think of is the drive shaft is rusted up into the crank shaft.

Have you tried wedges between the lower unit and mid section?

Dont look good. SELOC manual recommends cutting a hole in the strut with a hole saw and cutting the shaft with a SAWZALL. Had to do that a few years ago on a MARINER. Was down to the powerhead and half a shaft, no amount of penetrating oil or pulling/ pounding would free it. You are to the point you have to get tough. Cut a good size hole in the strut so you can get to the shaft. Turn the motor upside down and start poring penetrating oil down the shaft, maybe that will help. I do not know how the strut is made, could be a carrier bushing the shaft rides in close to the power head which would restrict the oil running down. If that is the case, cut the hole on the other side of the bushing. You dont have to much to lose at this point. If you do get it separated, the strut will be fine with the hole in it. GOOD LUCK FRED

I just had the same problem with a 9.9 yamaha just today I was told to loosen up on the powerhead bolts and to pry up on one corner of the power head while it was running this would loosed up the corrosion between the crank shaft and the drive shaft so what I did was loosen the lower unit bolts and ran the engine while prying and believe me it came loose the next part is to clean the shaft ez, but make a long blow gun and with compressed air blow out the crank spline and keep cleaning it out till she slides back together if you force it on its square 1 again give this a try what do you have to loose at this time Good Luck Bob
