HAPPY NEW YEAR 2 ALL,i hve a 35hp johnson model 35el77 and trying 2 disconnect lower unit,i hve followed my manual 2 no avail. It states to remove 4 bolts and 1 nut from the front as well as disconnecting shift lever.I noticed on my motor that when i tried 2 remove the 4 bolts 3 bolts came out with no probs, the last bolt isnt a bolt its some sort of a stud, sort of like a thumb tack,WHATS the go.

Re: lower unit

A flaw in the metal and the head snapped off at the flaw line??? Just guessing.

Re: lower unit

Some type of faulty bolt like Frank stated or a homemade thingymajig. Post a pic if you can so you can figure out to to replace it with a proper bolt.

Re: lower unit

metal base of impeller has siezed to drive shaft. some have tapped it and broken the bond, some have, cut rubber off and heated. some have taken dremel and cut the band, this guy scored the drive shaft.

Re: lower unit

The diagram HERE might help.

The impeller should slide off OK but watch out for the key.

There does not seem to be anything preventing the shaft being withdrawn either but take care not to damage the seals. Now is a good time to renew them anyway.

Re: lower unit

Go to HERE Find your engine by make year HP and model and click on "gearcase" and you'll get the diagram in my link and all the part numbers Impeller is 378891 but the availability is "limited"
the key is 317078. Click the magnifier next to the part number and it says the alternative part for the impeller is 775521
Pump repair kit is 388256 also with limited availability but the alternative is 389980

There is also a chrome pump kit if you want.

Only snag is the housing is listed as 322260 not the number you quote but a search of the BRP part numbers came up blank on that so presumably not a BRP part number

double check the numbers please before ordering!
