1984 yamaha 40 hp,model 40 ELN.
ok to start the lower unit it getting water in it.noticed 1 day when motor was up that gear case oil was coming out of 2 small holes that are on either side of the lower unit just above and in front of top vent screw plug.also when I was filling it with lube it was leaking out of ssme holes.upon removing lower unit I noticed the shift rod boot had come out of the plate that shift rod goes through.i pressed the boot back into hole all seemed well.took boat out for a drive then checked lower unit and oil is milky again.i think the boot came out again.the boot is in good shape,not cracked or anything. Any ideas on how to keep this from happening again?I have looked into getting a new boot but they are no longer available.
