I got the seals in the mail today and went to replace them. I drained the lower unit and found alot of metal shavings in the old oil. I have a question about swapping the entire unit. I found a lower unit but it is from a 35hp, same year as mine 1988. I have looked at the parts diagram for both units and all parts seem to be the same. Can I use the lower unit from the 35hp and put it on my 50 hp? Anyone ever done or heard of this being done? It seems as if I read somewhere it can be but now I cant find it to make sure.
