Lower units compatible w/ 1999 Evinrude Ficht 175

What other year and hp lower units would be compatible with this engine? I'm seeing conflicting information on a couple sights and just wanted to verify to make sure I don't get one that won't work.

the 150-175hp 60 degrees will fit (1991-up), carbed or FICHT i believe. maybe a simple shift shaft swap on some years. the big 3.0 200-250hp v6 will not fit. different driveshaft.

Appreciate it! I saw several places claiming that anything from 85-300 hp from 1991-2006 would work, I didn't figure that was actually the case!

On many of these you may need to swap the upper driveshaft and the shift rod.---Lots of gearcases can be made to fit.-----And the aftermarket ---SEI---Unit may be an affordable option.-----What went wrong with yours ?-----I would be looking to fit say a 1990 gearcase As I believe the propshaft bearing carrier with 2 tabs to hold it are not as robust.

I haven't completely tore it down yet to see what exactly went wrong. I've got the lower unit pulled just gotta finish digging deeper in. Lots of metal in the gear oil. We were running down the lake when the engine suddenly started shaking violently and making a grinding/tapping noise from below the water line, I immediately stopped and when I did the engine stalled. Cranked it back up, it idled fine and the noise was gone but the noise and vibration would start back when put into gear.

Very typical of these units with the 2 tabs holding the propshaft bearing carrier.----Stripped teeth off the gears.
