Went about changing the lower unit oil on my 69' Johnson 33horse and it was empty .... blew into the top fill hole and could hear some air escaping . Found the air leak behind the prop . Now I know I need to replace the seals but was wondering for a temporary fix what harm it would be to use some silicon around the outter rim. Gonna fill it up today and see how bad the leak is .

My question to you all is what is the worst leak you have ever seen ? I am thinking it may be more than a constant drip here.

You need the correct seals'. What you suggest will have no effect at all.

When you break the gearcase off even with the water line, they really leak.

I did'nt ! It was somebody else's motor. Mississippi river wing dams can cause this.
