lower units

[just me 2]

I have 2 lower unit gear cases that will fit a 60s/early 70s 20 or a 25hp johnson/evinrude.
1 is the same as the BRP parts book but the other 1 is a lot small and more lite wieght. can anyone tell me what it may be off of.

A picture would be helpful, but I think I know the lower units of which you speak.

Dad used to have a 1971 Johnson 25. One day back in 1974 we were motoring along in Ivanhoe Lake near Timmins when we overtook a little boat with what looked like a 25/20/18 only much smaller. Later that day I saw the same boat & motor pulled up on the beach, so I went over to take a look. I discovered it was a 1962/63 Johnson 5?. That lower unit with the U-shaped muffs at the bottom of the swivel bracket was used 1956-1979.

Pictures can say it a lot better, so I'm attaching pics of a 1964 Johnson 5? & a 1965 Johnson 18 (became a 20 for '66). See if what I'm saying makes sense.

Yes,I think you are right. Bought it off of ebay, the guy said it was off of a 1970 20hp. " yall right"? thanks a lot for the help.
