Lower water pump base removal problem

Hi- Having problem getting water pump base out in 1972 140 hp I/O . Seloc manual says on early pumps a flush screw must be removed first ,but don't know if 1972 qualifies as " early " and no screw appears to be there anyway . Tried screwdriver and channel lock prying , but no go . Any suggestions ? Thanks

Bigger screw drivers. Use 2 opposing each other, keep working at it. Re check that there is not a flush screw.
