Reading all this, I believe my stiff shift and resulting problems may be binding gear thrust rod at the gear case top surface.
I have the book, and it deals with lowering the gear case, but it doesn't say anything about releasing and engaging the actual drive shaft, which must be going through there somewhere.
Is there something to do about the drive shaft when doing this?
