Lowrance 1600 GPS Question

Greetings. Our Maxum came with the Lowrance 1600, but when I fired it up the screen looked terrible. Many missing lines in the picture. Any ideas on how to fix it? I am guessing it is hardley worth the $$$. It has the external antenna mounted on the ride rail and looks sturdy, any ideas if there are newer units that could use the existing mounting, wiring, and antenna?

Or, of course, and easy way to fix this one up?

Thanks!

Re: Lowrance 1600 GPS Question

Yup, sounds like the LCD screen is shot.
Although a good unit, it's vintage considering how fast today's technology is moving. Doubtful it is worth fixing. However, I encourage you to check with Lowrance. At one time they had a flat rate fix it fee. I had a $1000 aviation unit which cost $125 to repair.

The mount is surely unique to the unit.
The antenna may or may not be reused. Many connections are proprietary but many units also have and use a NMEA standard connector. Been a while since I've seen one, but if memory serves it's a round connector with about 8 pins (+/-).

Re: Lowrance 1600 GPS Question

Thanks for the info! I will check with Lowrance. From a quick look around, it seems the 1600 is ancient already... I am not sure I really need a GPS for Lake Mead anyway, but it would have been a nice extra.

Cheers.
