Lowrance LCX-38c HD shut down after 4 sec.

Hi Guys

I just bought a new LCX-38c HD without transducer and GPS puck.
To make sure it works OK before buying a transducer and GPS-puck I tried to boot the unit, but when pushing the power button the startup screen shows for about 4 sec. and then it powers off.

Do I need the transducer and GPS-puck to boot the unit or what else can be the problem?

Most Lowrance units I have seen with out the transducer come up in demo mode.
First thing I would do is connect a battery charger to make sure it is not a voltage problem.

Did you buy this unit used? like stated above make sure you getting enough voltage and amps. fyi just because you see 12v, doesn't mean you getting enough amps too.

There wasn't enough amps, switched to the boat battery and it booted fine

Glad you found your problem

First thing I would do is connect a battery charger to make sure it is not a voltage problem.

On another note, never hook up battery chargers to electronics like this unless you want to fry it. Many battery chargers have way too much AC ripple and without a battery to load them may exceed the input voltage limits.

I did not mean to hook the electronics to the battery charger.
My point was to charge the battery before you assume the problem is the electronic.
