There's a parameter on the gauge for Engine Trim.

Is there a way to connect the trim sender from a Mercruiser Alpha to it?

not to my knowledge. That is for the newer engines. Basically it's a just a harness kit that plugs into your exsisting harness so that it can transmit the data over a nmea 2000 network. i believe the engine has to be smart crafted equiped
