Lowrance X102C Speed Sensor

I'm in the process of installing my speed sensor, and I'm confused. When standing outside the boat, looking at the transom should the axcess of the speed sensor wheel match the dead rise angle(angle of the hull V) or should the axcess of the wheel be horizontal (parallel with the surface of the water) ?

I don't think it matters that much. Just make sure it has a good flow of water to make the wheel spin.<br /><br />I have had them mounted both ways and they both worked fine. <br /><br />When I first got my boat the speed sensor was mounted so it was parallel with the water and the wheel was below the the hull so it had good water flow. I just installed a Lowrance X107CDF and mounted the speed sensor so it follows the V of the hull, again the wheel is just below the hull for good water flow.

I think the wheel should be mounted vertical. Get half of the wheel below the hull. Yes it will work if you line it up to the bottom of the hull but the wheel will run down against the lower side. At very low speed it may not turn. Like anchored and watching current slow down before a tide change. Also I have seen a couple of wheel mounted on the angle of a V hull and after a few years it wore the tiny spacer and the wheel would hit the side and not turn except at high speed.

AirMar recommends it be installed horizonal(w/ground) like the transducer. I am in the process of doing the same thing now, I got one of the transduce mounting plates from Cabelas and will be using that after I get my other holes repaired. I am replacing a 1987 Sitex unit, still works but so much new technology in the newer units.
