Lowrance X50 quit working after reset

No matter what I did, I couldn't get the fish arches back so I did the factory reset procedure in the manual. The unit was working fine (except for not showing fish arches) prior to the reset but now doesn't work. It reset to the factory settings. I turned off the 'Simulator Mode' but as soon as I do that, it either shows unrealistic depth readings and no graph or it just shows nothing. If I turn the unit off and then back on, it automatically goes back into simulator mode. The manual says that means that there is a transducer or cable issue.

I checked after pulling my boat out of the water and it all is in good shape. The whole boat and unit is only 1 year old. The more interesting thing is that it stopped working in the middle of the lake. One minute it's giving accurate readings, then I do a reset, and now it doesn't work correctly. I find it hard to believe that the transducer or cable died or changed status in the middle of the lake.

Any thoughts?

If the whole package is only a year old, I would call or visit the dealer. I would think they would make it right. May just give you a new unit.....

Transducers will and do fail all the time, not matter how old they are. If its still under warrenty take the old transducer back and get a new one. If not, I guess your buying one.

Try cleaning the contacts on the power and transducer..use either alcohol or electrical contact cleaner by CRC....

also the x-50 is a discoutinued model..its now a X50DS....

try cleaning first and make sure the connections are tight

I'll give the cleaning a try, thanks.

It is the X50ds BTW - I was just lazy in my typing!

Same exact unit as mine, maybe check those pin connectors where the transducer cable plugs into back of unit. I spray mine off with WD-40 and an old toothbrush, then blow it off with an air hose. I keep my unit in a dry box except when I'm actually using it to try and protect it from sunlight, rain, dirt, etc. Good Luck!

Re: Lowrance X50 quit working after reset

Thanks everyone. Actually I tried another easy method. I found a "hard reset" procedure on the Lowrance website that was different than what was in the instruction booklet. It involved holding the up arrows and then hitting the power button to get into the keyboard mode. I just followed the directions and (at least in my garage) it appears to be working normally. We'll see on Sunday night when I get up to the lake.

I will clean all of the connections just to be sure though. Thanks!
