Re: lowrance x91

Brian
Lowrance makes some of the best units and the X91 is one of them. I like the unit for Fresh water down to about 150 feet. If you are fishing deep Salt Water the X91 would not be my choice. I have a 1985 X50 that has the same power output and it is still going strong, but I fish alot of Salt water and to see rockfish at 250 feet had to go to a 8 degree transducer deeper than that I have to use bottom track. I set unit to display bottom and up 50 feet. New Lowrance uints only have a 4 times zoom and just not enough in water over 350 feet.
One claim I do not belive is they say turn the sensitive up and see fish out to 60 degrees. Since their useing a 20 degree transducer I dout that claim. Also say Depth to 1000 feet, and that may be true for a hard bottom but with only a four times zoom could not see a whale that deep.
Still I think they have one of the best units for Freshwater to 150 feet. For deep salt water I like Furuno because they have a lot more power and can expand the bottom with bottom lock or bottom track. Lowrance went to a simpler 4 times zoom so only works good to about 150 feet.

Re: lowrance x91

I fully agree with Boatist. I have always been a fan of Lowrance gear and still run as a back up an old X40 which must be 15+ years old. Last year I was in the market for a new Sounder and considered the Lowrance that you mention however I bit the bullet and went for the Furuno and have never looked back. Brillaint performance and a lot of real power. The only down side is that the Furuno is sensitive to voltage and goes into alarm at 16.5V. This is when you find your voltage regulator is not that stable and it can cost you more than the sounder to put it right.

Jetcrusr69
It appears that Lowrance is no longer making the X91 and Have replaced it with two models. The X97 same unit with a higher resolution of 320 by 320 and the X98 same as X97 but with dual frequency of 50khz/200Khz. Also changed the higher end units and one has a screen size of 10 inches now.

I have recenlty picked up an older (but brand new) LMS350a.. Works fairly well and for the price you can find some of the older units for it is well worth it..
dave

Jetcrusr69
Well if you can find a way to mount tranduscer on trolling motor then it will work. For me it would not be my choice as I assume you pull your trolling motor for high speed travel. If you do that can not use depth finder until stop and put trolling motor back in.
