I thinking about getting a new fish finder.I fish in fresh water and depth is usually 100' to 200'. For the past 13 years i have been using a wide vision from humminbid but now i'm thinking about getting a lowrance LCX-17M or a X-136DF. I want duel freg so i can see my down rigger ball. Can you run these units on both freg at the same time or just one freg? Also is it possible that a unit can be too powerful and scare the fish? Thanks for the help ahead of time

Re: lowrance ?

Yes you can run both frequency at the same time.

Keep in Mind that Lowrance Dual Frequency transducer standard is 200 Khz at 12 degrees and the 50KHZ is at 35 degrees. They use the narrow transducer to help pentrate deeper water. To see your transducer ball you may still be able to fine one of the old style transducers that used 200Khz at 20 degrees and the 50KHZ at 45 degrees. Call Lowrance or LEI to be sure.

However as long as your running a large ball and the cable is pretty straight down you should be able to see the ball with either of the 50khz transducers.

At 100 to 200 feet I do not think the ping will have much effect on the fish but If you want to start a argument just ask that question about scaring the fish in a group of experts. Then stand back and watch the fun.

Your right the emulator I have downloaded I could not get both to run at the same time either. But I have two friends that have dual Frequencies units and they both will run at the same time. They are older units. A quick call to lowrance should confirm it for you.

It will be another 10 years before I could suggest a Humming Bird as Just seen so many problems seeing bottom at speeds higher than trolling speeds. I will say that since the matrix came out I think all the problems seeing bottom at higher speeds were transducer mounting problem. In the past I think it was the transducer created it own problems.
