I'm about to refill my lower unit with lube, and was wondering why the manual says to fill from the lower hole? There's a perfectly good upper level hole that seems a better/cleaner place.

Re: LU lube refill

If you put the bottom plug in and fill from the top you'll stand a real good chance of trapping air and not get it full.

Filling from the lower hole will push any air out of the lower unit and out the upper hole. Its also easier to know when the lower unit is full, because when some gear lube starts seeping out of the upper hole...you know your full.

Try blowing into a soda bottle. You will determine in a hurry why they recommend filling from the bottom. You then install the top plug, then the bottom one.

I find these pumps much easier to use than the tubes, not to mention cleaner. Dont forget to change the gaskets as well while you are at it.

I used one of these until I lent it out to a friend !!!!! I have not seen it since !!! so last fall I went with the old method of squeezing it in.
Fill from the bottom = No air locks.

Im not sure if you have a Princess Auto around you, but they carry them at a pretty low price tag, about 4 bucks.
