I dont think I have ever needed to replace the bushing, and have done hundreds. Remember all it does is hold the shift rod o ring and compress it slightly. A little 3M 847 around the circ of it will quickly fix any possible leaks, but water will much more easily pass through the shift rod/oring contact area than past the bushing/casting mating surface.
The easist way to remove it is to simply purchase the correct tool. PM F_R on this forum, he fabricates them.
Here is my original tool I made out of 5/16" rod, tapered down to 1/4". Basic but it worked for a few years.
Then simply drive it out. They do not all drive out the same way.
When reinstalling, do not allow the bushing to get countersunk in the cavity or it will overcompress the oring, causing water intrusion.
