have never done a lu seal replacement ( just kept replacing oil) but im getting ready to dive into my cd 13. all the parts in the kit ....except the two orings in the pic......are easy to see where they go. i have looked at exploded views, but those two small orings have me a bit baffled. where do they go?? ( the two on the right .....by the dogs foot)DSCF1682.jpg

Smaller one is for the top of the driveshaft splines to keep water from gettting into the powerhead, the larger one is the shift rod seal.

Dont forget the 3M847! It is a must.

Also cut the spaghetti seal a touch big, and cut it square, not on an angle.

This is it here

Mainly for the spaghetti seal and screws, but also where needed if housing are damaged etc... for the driveshaft and propshaft. Can also be used to seal impeller plate. Great stuff.

You will need to make a rod like so...

To drive out the shift rod seal

Hey Chris, how did you get ahold of my lower unit housing? LOL :D

No that tiny o-ring doesn't go on the drive shaft. That one goes on the shift fork pivot screw. Don't worry, when you pull the powerhead, you'll see the o-ring in the top seal and be able to match it up. You'll also see the cork gasket too.

Hi nwcove. Here's a link that can walk you through the whole job. Yup, you do stretch one of the o-rings over the upper drive shaft. There should be a bevel just below the upper splines that it rests in. A bit of vaseline can help it slide on more easily and prevent chafing. you may want to get an oil seal puller, if you don't already have one. They're not essential, but they sure are handy. That being said, don't be surprised if some of the seals are stubborn. I've had clip, snip and twist them out in the past. Keep us posted.

Ah sorry the one for the driveshaft will be obvious. Hard to tell scale from the pic and I only glanced at it quickly, lol.

I think that housing is for my Javelin. I had a bunch of them soda blasted so now have to remember which one goes where! I have soda blasted parts all over the basement.

yup. the smallest, tiny, thin o-ring goes if for the phillips head screw, but there is also another slightly larger, relatively thin o-ring that goes on the drive shaft, and there's also another small, fat little o-ring that goes under the shift shaft bushing that you have to punch out with the tapered tool shown above, or by using the little trick in the link below, they both work equally well.
