Lube for old 9.8 hp merc with points?

hey guys i just installed a new oiler wick in the point housing because the other one there was nothing left of it, now im wondering what oil to soak the wick in, is there a special oil i need to use? i hear you cant just use any reguar oil or you will burn out your point holder arms, thanks for any help guys

I would assume mineral oil as that is what always came with points sets for old cars. Baby oil is the same thing with fragrance added

You want a light oil that won't gum up or carbonize with heat, like mineral oil or a silicone based lube.

thanks for the reply guys i went into the llocal auto parts dealer and he recommended i use dielectric grease, will this do the trick? or should i just find some mineral oil? thanks guys... and can you find mineral oil in mechanical form or is it all the same? thanks

The grease wont hurt it but it will be more difficult for it to soak in.
