Can you pump your own gas? No, you can't you morons run out & harpoon me when we try to do it when passing through. Thought you republicans were against that kind of "make work" program? Make work democrate program to hire employees to pump my gas for me. I don't need that. Us Californians can do it ourselves. Splain that one to me Lucy. I wouldn't be surprised if you moved to the Great State of Oregon from California. You see we here don't look down on you out of staters like you do to us. So the manufacturers are recommending that you waste money on synthetic oils to follow the warranty recommendations????<br /><br />AND If you read the owners manual and the criteria for "adverse conditions" you would realize that +90% of vehicles are driven under those conditions. <br /><br />check out the information on the web about synthetic oils and the wear advantages to them.<br /><br />and NO I don't believe that synthetic oil is the best for all vehicles and operating circumstances.<br /><br />'tis a shame when someone who has been in the industry for 20 years is still working with technology that is older than that and refuses to update themselves and recognize what is going on in the industry today.<br /><br />JD

Pascal, what manufacturer recommends synthetic oil? I am not aware of this. Yeah, they say if you drive through a sand storm down here in Monterey for 20 seconds it's adverse. According to my manuals if my Grandma drive's to the grocery store to get a quart of milk, that was adverse. If you people are driving under real adverse conditions you better revise your driving habits because your wasting gas & if your insurance company finds out about it your gonna' get harpooned when you get your next premium. Not only that your a road hazzard to yourself. Down here in the states we can't make claims like using synthetic oils to maintain a warranty or using 93 octane when you don't need it. It's illegal to make a false claim here. If you beleive the propaganda put out by the synthetic oil manufacturers, good for you. It's your money. As for me, my engines are still going 200,000 miles on regular gas & regular oil changed at 10,000 miles. So, go ahead & waste your money if you want to. I'm just telling you how it is. OZ, not that crazy, I'd have a Bud Light. You gonna' respond here or just show your arse like you did in the above post? How bout some answers here Bubba? Or can all you do is put up some blinking faces? How about a cogent response?

I'll admit, I didn't read everything on this thread, but I have a little tidbit of input. I read an article in a consumers magazine a few years back about oil changes and how long it takes for the oil to actually start breaking down in the engine . Regular 10W-30 motor oil was used in New York City cabs(because of extremely high wear & tear on the cabs) during the summer and the study found that the oil in the cabs didn't even begin breaking down until around 7000 miles. And if thats regular, synthetic must be closer to 10,000 miles, but I've never seen that same study done on synthetics. I personally would only use synthetics in a high performance or high wear & tear vehicle.

The problem with that study on the NY cabs were that it only measured the oil breakdown. The additives that help keep the engine clean, dissolve acids, keep soot in suspension rather than form sludge etc. breaks down a lot sooner than that. There's been a HUGE number of independant comparetive studies done on full synth and dino oil. Synth came out tops on all MODERN engines. Those facts aren't even debatable.<br /><br />What I want to know however, is where are the mods? This type of name calling and abusive behaviour does not belong on a family forum.

The article stated that the oil was perfectly fine until around 7000 miles when the first signs of breakdown appeared. This was a very detailed study and I'm almost positive they were implying that no type of breakdown occured until around 7000 miles. Those aren't exact words of the article, but it's what you got from reading it.<br /><br />Here's a little info I found on synthetics.<br /><br />Advantages of Synthetic<br /><br />Synthetic oil was originally developed for high performance racing engines. Mobil tried to popularize synthetic oil for passenger vehicles back in the early 1970's. At the time, Mobil was promoting 20K or 25K oil changes with synthetic, but they soon backed down from this. Synthetic oil is a good choice if you have a vehicle with a high performance engine (in fact synthetic is required for many of these engines). It is also a good choice if your vehicle is operated in extremely cold climates. It has higher resistance to breakdown caused by heat and it flows better in extreme cold. Unfortunately for the synthetic oil industry there is virtually no advantage to using synthetic oil in a non-high performance engine that is operated in moderate climates. You probably could go a bit longer between oil changes with a synthetic, i.e. following the normal service schedule even if you fall into the severe service category, but I wouldn't advise this. In short, synthetic may give you the peace of mind of knowing that you are using an oil that is far better than necessary for your vehicle, but it won't reduce wear or extend the life of the engine.

Yea my thought too.<br /><br />Now you see why members leave here or don't post anymore.<br /><br />It's a shame to loose good members over one's that just want to troll and call people names that they would not if it was a face to face deal I grant you.<br /><br />I just hope the admin or mods do something before more members are lost because of it.
