Lubrication for turning motor

I have a 1998 Johnson 90 HP V-4. Steering has been tight so decided to trouble shoot. Helm and cable are fine. The problem is the actual motor is very hard to turn. It appears to have grease but can't figure out where the grease fittings are for the top part. Anything else I could look for to figure out why the motor is so stiff to turn?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

John

There is a grease fitting on the swivel shaft. It is fairly well hidden. Tilt the motor up all the way and pull the trim lock bracket down to expose the grease fitting. If the steering doesn't loosen up, you may need to apply some heat to melt out the old stuff.

I no longer have a 98 manual, is there a steering friction adjustment on this engine. It will probably tell in the owners manual, if you have it. Don't try heat to make the old grease run out. It take's a lot of heat to make grease run. I tried this in my younger day's to make cast bullet lube from water pump grease and bee's wax. Got alot of smoke, but no running. This was with a pan on the stove. Was asked not to try that again.
