Red "N" Tacky looks like pretty good stuff, for multiple purpose with boat, Coupler spline, gimbal bearing, U-joints, trailer axles, etc.. , what's the call? Yes No?

Care to comment, best, where and why?

Thanks!

Coupler spline

Howdy,

I would use Mercruiser coupler grease Or whatever Volvo recommends for the spline/coupler.

Use the wrong grease and you run the risk of wearing out the coupler faster.

The Mercury grease is only about $8-10 and the Volvo grease can't be much more.

I use OMC/Bombardier triple guard grease on the driveshafts splines and Pennzoil Marine wheelbearing grease on the gimble bearing and trailer wheel bearings. I also use the triple guard grease on the propshaft splines and it's one of the best water proof greases I've ever used.

I have used red tacky for years on splines. It is stickey enough to stay and has ep formula so it will take the pressure.
Triple guard is NOT as good as it is formulated for corrosion protection but not the pressure of splines.
Is short if you have red I would use it or buy spline grease. You shouldn't need extra corrosion protection where it is on the splines.
Gimbal bearing needs more corrosion protection and is rolling bearing so doesn't need as much pressure protection. Triple guard or trailer grease is better there. Plus it is somewhat lighter and takes less HP to turn and will re-distribute better under load.
