Can anyone offer suggestions for type and locations for rod holders on my Lund 1700 Fisherman? Any photos of locations and rod holder manufacturer references would be helpful.

Thanks

Re: Lund 1700 Fisherman Rod Holder & Location

I run Ram 2000 rod holders mounted on the Lund Sport Trak brackets on mine. I put about 5 of the brackets around the boat so that almost every one in the boat has one if they want one. They slide in the tracking so that you can move them just about anywhere. The Ram rod holders comeout of the bracket so that they aren't in the way if no one is using them.

http://folbe.com/

I have not figured out where to mount one by my console, but have one port side midship and one mounted port side bow behind where my trolling motor head sits in the stowed position....

The Folbe holders are expensive, but there is nothing like them on the market. The Rams are nice but they can cause line to hang up in them if you are not careful... Additionally, they require when removing the rod from the holder that you raise the tip of the rod way up to slip it out along the side of the holder. With the Folbe, you can keep your rod level.....

Thanks for the replies. A couple of follow up questions:

- Is it possible to add the Sports Trac on as an after market item? My 2001 doesn't have that feature.

- I'm debating whether to install flush mounts or pedestals type. I like the idea of a flush mount, but I'm hesitant to drill a large hole for the mounting since I'm not real sure where I want the holder.

- Can anyone share photos of their rod holder mounting locations?

Thanks again for the help.

No, I do not think there is any economically reasonable way a Sport track can be mounted on your older Lund Fisherman. Most of the guys I talk to don't really utilize it- but I really like the flexibility it gives me for set up.... To me it is a huge selling feature.

Because I was also worried about the location of my holders, I mounted them on the Sport Trak so I could change them if I wanted to. Your mounting solution is not going to be quite as easy if you decide you didn't like the location and have already drilled several holes in your boat.

I will try to get some pictures for you....

Here's some photos. I'll probably add one more aft starboard base since we normally drift off that side of the boat. Never uploaded files to IBoats, so hopefully it'll work and you can see them. Last picture isn't rod holder but is some other things that I put on the Sport Trak brackets.

Thanks for the follow-up and photos, very helpful. I can see why you like the Sports Trac system.
