Re: Dealer hit my boat with a fork lift.. help!

I'm not seeing a big repair at all.

Man I'd just have it fixed and stop worrying about it.

You don't really think that the new rivets are gonna pop apart?

Come on, go check out the guy who's doing the repair if you don't think he's capable then find someone else that can either through Lund or do some looking online.

As for a price how much time do you think is really in it? Half day actual work? Most of it would be letting the paint dry.

I totally understand where your coming from but one really important thing you always have to remember when dealing with a boat is it's just a boat.

Good luck brother.

Oh yeah and that's the same advice I gave my brother when his boat got hit in the marina by a yacht dealer showing a 50'.

It took him awhile to get back to reality.

Lots of B.S. to reach the only reasonable conclusion.

I guess in this situation, I'd expect the dealer to get the boat fixed to look like it did before the accident and to be structurally correct and then forget about it. If it was a brand new boat, that'd be another deal, but it's not. Even then, I'd just want a discounted price and maybe some really nice autoinflating life vests or something thrown in.

My father, who's now 83, owns a citrus farm. Every few years he'd buy a brand new pickup for the farm. The day he took delivery, he'd drive that truck in the orchard and let the trees scratch it all up.

He said, "Heck, that way I didn't worry about putting scratches on a truck that was bought to do work that would scratch it up."

But, what do I know. My boat has few places on it that aren't scratched, dinged, or otherwise far from new-looking.

My 2 cents; have the Lund Dealer send it to a Lund repair facility that will warrant the work. Billy Bob's dent shop will not get it right. This was hit hard enough to cause damage to the oposite side of the hull - correct? It's like a straightening a frame on a car, Make em do it right.

Read post # 22 again please. There is only the damage you see it was a minor communication error.

Nobody is even remotely suggesting doing the repair wrong.

Where you got that or Billy Bob's dent shop out of a qualified aluminum boat building shop I'll never know?

Seriously if you want to help the guy out it would probably work better if you read the thread.

NSBCraig, he just misread the earlier posts, it happens.

What you do with the boat depends on your agreement with the dealer. If having the 10 year warranty is something you paid for or was a part of your decision to buy the boat, then he owes you something for the warranty... and that's not a small cost.

Ask him if his shop will warranty the repairs he pays to have done for 10 years maybe, then let him repair it. That'd be fair, and you'd be covered, and likely the boat would look good. If he's as shady or clueless as he sounds then he'll refuse most likely.

If he won't warranty the repair, take him to court to get what you paid him for, a boat in good condition with the factory 10 year warranty.

Court always sucks, but sometimes you get the right outcome. Worst case you're back to where you are now.

Perhaps you should learn to read!

Here is a picture of the damage. The impact effected "both sides" of the boat and pushed in the frame on the corner.

Where you get a guy who builds aluminum boats in town, as a qualified aluminum boat building shop, I will never know. It's Billy Bob until specified. Or are you trying to help the dealer? The guy wants his warranty intact. The only way that will happen is through the manufacturer, if at all.

Sorry to **** you off dude but the side of the boat and the transom are what are bent not both sides.

It's just the corner.

I haven't a clue who the dealer is, or care.

I've never owned a Lund and never once thought about buying one.

I have work in a Powdercoating shop and have some real good knowledge of pretreatment and corrosion protection which is the only thing that can't be covered by the boat builder making the repair nor by the manufacturer if they did the repair.

It's a complete boat not a hull you can treat.

They can use the best methods possible to try but reality is reality.

Yes the boat builder doing the repair should be able to back up his work. If he can't compenetly repair that little damage he probably would have been out of business a while ago.

The first thing he did was contact Lund so telling him to send it to Lund doesn't really make sense that is in fact the first thing he looked into.

Just trying to help this guy out a bit.

Sorry but the whole Billy Bob comment is just flat out ignorant!

Re: Dealer hit my boat with a fork lift.. help!

Once had a car that had a dented front bumper and fender. Showed up the day after dropping it off at the dealer down the street. They had the hood, both doors on the side that had the front damage, as well as the other front fender all sanded and gutted out! I asked why???? They called it "blending in". Well 2 years go by and all of a sudden the car is 2 different colors!! I complained to the "neighborhood" dealer, they say the damage was the front fender and bumper, it still matched the surrounding panels. They would not own up to the fact they painted 1/2 of the car, which no longer matched the other 1/2. Make sure you, and they know what is to be done and documented. Lund boats are known for resale value in the midwest, if the dealer is reputable it should still be as valuable as before. PS-I now repair my own damage, if I ever deal with major damage I hope its totaled!!!
