Lund Explorer 1675 ss w/ 75 E-tech?

Tried searching and found nothing. I am driving the above said boat and motor combination with a 17 pitch aluminum prop.

My speed is 42-45 WOT although my RPM's are only about 4800. My motor calls for 5500 at WOT. I cannot trim up anymore as I get air? in the prop. My motor is instaled by a reputable marina at correct hight. Although because I already had the motor they kept the same prop on it.

I am toying with getting a stainless. Do I go down to a 15 pitch or to a 13? I know I will likely loose speed:(, but I will be able to keep my rev's where they are supposed to be. Was also told I would be able to troll better?

Thanks for your help

If you're starting to vent that easily it sounds like the motor is too high for that prop or it's worn considerably. I'd sure think that motor should easily spin a 17 ss on that boat. Your best bet is to hook up with a good prop guy and test a couple different ones. Obviously you need to make sure the motor is performing as it should and the tach is set right.

My motor shouldn't be too high. After reading a bunch of posts I was wondering if it is too high. As for the ss that's the boat model (side consol) It's a stock aluminum on it right now. Would a stainless make up that much of a difference?

Motor is new in June, although I did have 50 hrs on it in 2 months. Ya I get out a lot. Tach is also set right. The boat is only 2 weeks old. And they did calibrate it with their machine. Sorry don't know the proper terms, I'm a bike guy not a boat guy.

As for a prop guy, I would have to do some travelling, as I do not know of any one here. The marina I bought the boat from suggested a 13 and mentioned a stainless. I just wondered if there were others out there with maybe the same setup to see what they had.

If the rain lets up, I'll see if I can get a pic of where my motor sits.

Your speed is excellent,Brp performance reports run about 38-41 mph.
BRP performace reports on similar boats they run 17" and 15" stainless props.Boats are AL. similar size and weight 836-970 lbs. the 965,836 had a 17",970 and 880, run 15" It seems obvious prop selection isn't keyed by weight.I believe rpm were a low of 5,300 high of 5400.A SS prop doesn't necessarily reduce rpm/speed Usually will improve speed and possibly rpm.It depends on the type.A stainless or the Hustler turning point will resist ventilation and may improve rpm and speed.

you might want to make sure the throttle is opening all the way. Wouldn't be the first time an engine was installed and adjustment was overlooked.

Try this site
http://forums.etecownersgroup.com/mb/barnaclebill

Will have to cut and paste it, but should help you out as it is dedicated to the ETEC.

Check out the E-tec owners site as listed above. Having said that...it looks like you are running a bit lower WOT rpm than BRP recommends. This is the chart of optimum rpm's put out by BRP....and found on the owner's site:

Looks like you need at least a couple hundred rpm's more....even though your speed seems great. They put this out to help prop the engines to perform at their best...especially fuel economy...by not lugging the motor ( turning too few rpm's).

Check to see if your motor height is right. I was told to have my new e-tec mounted so that the anti-cav plate is 1 to 1 1/2 inches above the point of the "V" on my Lund 1800 Fisherman. I guess this is critical for these new motors to perform their best, otherwise the anti-cav plate is dragging in the water and increasing resistance too much. My dealer innitially wanted to mount the motor with the plate level with the point of the "V'.

Good Luck,

Wayne

P.S.

The chart compressed...looks like "Optimal WOT RPM" for your motor is 5000 to 5200...with your "Normal" load. I'm no expert...but I'm trying to learn more about E-tecs since I'm re-powering my boat with a 2009.

Re: Lund Explorer 1675 ss w/ 75 E-tech?

Thanks for all the replies. I meant to say I think my motor might be low not high.

I will check that site out. As for the speed I am right where I thought I should be. I just want to make sure I'm not dragging the motor by not having enough rmps.

As for the E-tec. Oh my goodness. It is amazing. I replaced a 1993 evinrude 50 on my old boat (lowe stinger 170) with this motor. As it was a loud smoky, noisy gas sucker. I noticed immediate improvement. My boat was more stable (because of the increase in weight and power I think). The e-tec is really quiet. Not as quiet as a four stroke, but close. It sips the gas. I will have this motor paid for in about two years just in gas savings alone. I notice more noise now that it is on the Lund. I think this is because I have walls that chanel the sound as opposed to the open air of my Lowe. I can highly recomend this moter.
