"I THINK" my 78 Lund has rotary steering, but I may be wrong.

The cable is not moving inside of the cable housing. I am trying to take it off to grease it or replace it??

It looks like I have to take this off first, correct?

How do I get it off?

Once that piece that connects to the outboard comes off, I simply pull it through?

Thanks in advance.

Which end is that? The end that goes into the helm? I would just replace the whole system. They aren't very expensive. Not many have had a whole lot of luck trying to free up an older bound up cable.

No, that end attached to the outboard.

I think I am getting somewhere, the sleeve was seized completely, full of crud. I worked it loose and cleaned it with brake cleaner. It now moves very freely. I soaked it overnight in gear oil. I will be installing it soon. I am hoping the sleeve is the only problem and the cable is fine.

If it doesn't work: Is this a rotary system?
If I have to replace it, do I only replace the cable or does the end piece come attached?
Do I just measure the cable or the whole thing?

Advice appreciated, this is all new to me. Can you tell?
