Been going through my purchase and replacing various bits to get it in tip top condition with the help of the service manual and the fine folks from this forum. I was wonddering about the link and sync though. After reading the serv. manual, I still don't really have a good understanding of how to do this, or which marks I need to be paying attention to.

I was hoping someone might be able to break it down for me? Maybe a LnS for dummies?

Thanks,
Skidz

Essentially you want the carbs synced to each other, and synced to the ignition. The advance needs to be at the correct place both at idle and WOT. What manual are you using?

If that's a M40C has only one carb and very simple sync, if that engine is new or have not been tampered, no need to really ajust anything besides idle screw.

Try to describe what you are having trouble with. If I had to guess, it would be in understanding the timing marks, or the position of the throttle roller on the cam.

Re: M40C link n sync

Using the factory service manual - 1and2 cylinder version, and it's only one carb. As far as I know, it hasn't been messed with, and it runs good; I just want to verify everything is correct and understand it better. The ignition advance is what I'm not sure about. That and understanding the timing marks. I can say the throttle butterfly is fully closed at lowest throttle position, and horizontal at WOT.

Thanks,

If engine has butterfly fully opened at wot it's at factory setting, tomarrow will have a 40C at shop for full maintenance, so if you need to know any other tech issue let me know, will take some pics of the timming with measurements as a refference in case somebody needs to count with them.

Re: M40C link n sync

Sea Rider, I would greatly appreciate any pics of the timing and throttle cam positions if it isn't too much trouble. My biggest problem is knowing which timing mark needs to lined to the case seam, I can't see any reference numbers on or near the marks.

Re: M40C link n sync

Skidz, you are welcome, won't see any marked numbers, are marked short & large vertical lines only, when at full trottle case seam must be aligned at the last coil's plate small left mark to match 25? timming. Will take pictures latter or wednesday morning.

Update: Boat/engine has not showed up at shop yet...
