Re: Made a heck of a good deal on ebay(update 10/19/2010)

Well, the motor, fuel tank, and owner manual arrived today!!!!

compression out the box = 70psi/70psi

spark= 1/4 gap on the spark tester (good)

Fuel= started on second pull and I adjusted the slow idle needle some. Runs pretty good. It smoked alot at first but fuel/oil probably accumulated near the head during shipping. After a little bit it resolved and adjusting the slow idle needle helped.

I did note that a very little water was being pumped, so I shut it down. Will drop the lower unit and replace the impeller and check the lower unit oil.

Here are a few pictures of motor fresh out the box and a short video!

Coooooooooooooooooooooooolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Thanks for checking the pics and movie out. (Total for motor and shipping was about $100)

Looks like you came out on top. I had a 9.5 Johnson (1969) that I got rid of a few yeas ago that had 60/60 compression. It still ran OK, but was tired and I wanted something that I didn't have to mess with all the time. It had got to the point where the gasket that separates the head from the lower exhaust had deteriorated and a lot of the smoke would come up under the hood and choke it out.

Mine only sprayed a mist of water until it heated up and the thermostat opened up. That's normal for those. It looks pretty clean. I used to love the way the handle folded down out of the way for carrying & storage.

How does yours run with the hood on?

It runs fine with the hood on, so no exhaust leak as of yet:D I have 2 other 9.5hp motors and they put out a lot more water. I don't know when the water pump has been replaced on this motor, so I am definitely going to replace the impeller. I plan on doing a seafoam decarbing just to get it cleaned out.

Cheers

A forum wouldn't be a forum without a few naysayers. Congrats on your purchase. I'll give you $75 and pay the shipping. Easy profit!:D:D

Great find!!!

Those engines had their oddities but were great fishing motors.

Give her a good dose of Sea Foam in the fuel. That will clear up any carbon issues.
