Re: madonna before and after photoshop

Its done more than you realize. Fat thighs are reshaped, bellies are removed, not a zit to be found, etc., etc.

Modern digital SLR cameras pickup everything so there has to be some skin treatment, but the body reshaping annoys me as a photographer. I have models who ask for it, but I won't do it. If they don't want to shoot with me over that issue, too bad. Next!

On the skin treatment, it would probably blow your mind as to the time involved. There are basically two ways to do it. One involves "destructive techniques," where you use skin samples from clear areas to blend over skin imperfections. This is often mixed with blurring techniques.

For major publications and major subjects like Madonna, the skin treatment often involves pixel by pixel treatments of highlights and dark areas around blemishes and the like, with the Dodge and Burn tools. All skin imperfections tend to have these high and low light areas, so this technique makes them "disappear." As you might imagine, doing this on a pixel by pixel basis takes incredible amounts of time.

The high priced docs in LA aren't the only ones doing "a little surgery."

PS: They also do things like make eyes more blue, lips more red, etc.

Im surprised she allowed that photo to get out. You would think she was smart and experienced enough to protect herself from this.....seems a little fishy to me.

It's not a surprise, stars actually pay people to make sure their pictures are perfect. Sometimes people get paid too much for what they do.

Just remember Photoshop can also be a toy. I am a rank armature at photoshop and had a duck that liked to drive me crazy at 6 am every morning. Here is what it looked like.

Then I had the strange desire to make a beautiful girl look like my x.
That worked too. ;)
Here is the before and after.

Well I am not in the least surprised..... I used to do allot of photography work and the darkroom is where the miracles took place. There used to be a whole bunch of both B&W and color tricks....... and before that oil colors were used on the photos.

The new trick that is interesting is the one where ANYTHING can be done to a person in a movie...... height, weight, body shape and carry that process through an entire movie.

We have been watching photographer's tricks for years..... now we see more tricks performed by the editors.

Do a search for Chuck Norris and you will discover that "soft focus" is done on any close up. Jay is a photographer and I will bet money he knows ALL the tricks.

Snake + Duck = Snuck :D very dangerous to retrieving hunting dogs!!

I am sure even the "Rag" magazines use Photochop... of course they use it to make them look worse.

"don't believe anything you hear. and only half of what you see"

Well now a days maybe 1/4 of what you see.

Check this out.. you all have seen starwars... I don't rememberSnoop dog being in it do you?

Soon they will do movies and only use the actors voices. Like a cartoon but digital, and you wont know the difference. it;s cheaper to pat someone to do the digital work than an actor to play the part..

Re: madonna before and after photoshop

I actually don't know all of the tricks. I'll do exposure correction, sometimes application of a little warming or cooling filter and a little skin smoothing, cloning, etc., but I don't get into the really "crazy" stuff. All I do, is to deal with blemishes, scars and the like. Sometimes I'll remove a small tatoo or two, but I don't like to do even that. I much prefer models who don't have them in the first place.

A lot of the stuff that you see in major publications takes a heck of a lot of time and they have lots of "photoshop wizards" to do the work involved. I just don't have the time for all of that, so I don't do it. For my wildlife and scenic work, about the only thing I do is exposure correction. I typically shoot in manual mode for iso, aperture and shutter speed though, so most of the time I get what I want, in terms of exposure.

Those who have talked about darkroom trickery are right - this stuff has been going on for a long time. Ansel Adams was well known for it. The difference in the digital age, is that the more routine stuff is easier to accomplish and there are quite a few things that you can do that would be very hard or altogether impossible with film.

Madonna is 52 years old, even without airbrushing she looks pretty darn good for her age IMHO.

She does it because she wants to look as good as you do, LF!

(Does that give me some brownie points for the next blonde joke????)

I wonder which one is photo shopped. I think maybe both are. One to look better and one to look worse.

Plastic. It is what it is.

I'm not sure I'd want to be married to: "Bondo Babe".

Both are Photoshopped, quite badly, IMO.

The first looks darkened, with a lot of ugly shadows added.

FWIW, magazine covers make or break a magazine purchase. There is only seconds at the checkout lane, for the buyer to decide, on one out or a dozen magazines.
