I have a bad magneto flywheel assembly for a 25hp tohatsu. Is it possible to bring back to life? Possibly take to alternator repair shop? Anyone have any experience with this? Anyone who sells aftermarket ones? It appears to be no longer available through tohatsu.

Re: Magneto Rebuild

Do you mean the flywheel or the coil plate assembly or both? There is no such thing as an aftermarket on parts like these. And I will need to know the model number of the engine...25C3, C4, etc.

I am talking about the coil assembly (exciter coil). Can someone explain how the trigger coil operates and what it's function is? Model: M25C2

Re: Magneto Rebuild

The trigger coil determines when to pulse the voltage. Due to the age of your engine, new parts are no longer available for it. You can contact Tohatsu at info@tohatsu.com and they may have a source for a rebuilt . There is company that is doing rebuilds on that, but their component failure rate is so high that we will not use them or recommend them.

OK, let me see if I have this sequencing right. The exciter coil creates the voltage, then the trigger coil dispenses the voltage accordingly to the CDI?

Re: Magneto Rebuild

So, if the trigger coil is like points, is there an adjustment, like gapping the points? Or is it works or not works?

Re: Magneto Rebuild

It either works or does not...This is covered in the service manual. It also has the test procedure and values.
