We finally did it! The four of us, (wife & 2 small ones), had our first boat trip! Up until now, it has been me practicing docking, but this weekend we took our 1998 Monterey over to Fire Island, (Watch Hill). Docked next to some friends, (actually got a round of applause from others when I slipped it right into the slip). Couple or problems, tore the eisenglass on the side of the top. My wife dropped my cordless drill into the water when getting on the boat, and we ran aground coming back. All and all, patience and a sense of humor got us through.
Learned a lot, and will continue to do things better - but not too bad.

a little duct tape in the glass, and you wanted a new drill anyway.

Yup or a small glass repair kit, do a quick repair and you'll never get a better chance to splurge a little bit on a new cordless drill. Wife's fault, so you can't go wrong saying now Honey, ya know if that drill hadn't of gone over... :p

A wonderful beginning to a lifetime of memories. Congratulations. Go for a better cordless drill as a trophy of the things gone right!

(dry the old one out with HER hairdryer and put it back so she doesn't see you use it for a year. Then when she does, just tell her you managed to get it working agin in your spare time with your superior machanical skills. She might actually buy it! That way you will have two drills of different sizes!!!!)

Congratulations! I'm still a couple of weeks away from dipping my new-to-me rig for the first time. I envy you. We're having such a nice weekend weatherwise on LI, too (sigh).

Re: Maiden Voyage

We took the project boat a couple of weeks ago to the lake for her maiden voyage all went well except we could only go 2mph (with a rude 60) 2 weeks later she is running fine and my memories are on youtube thanks to my daughters:D

Re: Maiden Voyage

Thanks for all the responses. I do have a question. Since the engine is raw water cooled, and I noticed that I was kicking up mud, (sand or whatever is at the bottom of the bay), wouldn't it have made it's way into the engine? I didn't notice it running any differently, (oil pressure steady, temperature steady), but I am just not sure that I know enough to know if there would be an issue. Any suggestions?

Re: Maiden Voyage

Not sure how I could flush the engine as it stays in the slip, (not on a trailer). Also, (and not to sound stupid), but isn't the engine being flushed by drawing water in itself?
