Boat 007.jpg

Finally got out with my new toy. Started fine and I adjusted the high speed setting and was quite happy.
Motor runs like a new one. I just don't seam to have good top end speed. The cavitation plate is about 5 inches
below the bottom of boat. Would a jack plate help the top end speed. Thanks.

Re: Maiden Voyage!!!

Nice looking vintage engine. . . .

Long shaft motor on a regular height transom. A jack plate might help . . .

absolutly,,,,need raise the old girl up!!! ventilation plate should be even with the lowest part of the boat maybe even a inch or 2 above but at least even makes a world of difference!!!

Re: Maiden Voyage!!!

doesnt look like a long shaft motor......just a short transom. i'd look at building the transom up a few inches.....probably cheaper than other options.

What type of boat is that? What is the transom height?

Re: Maiden Voyage!!!

The boat is a 72 Ouchita and the transom is approximately 15"
The motor is approx 18 from clamp to cavitation plate.
I am going to make a spacer to raise 2" to start with.
I beleive it will help.
Thanks

Re: Maiden Voyage!!!

same length as my 57 5.5, it is a short shaft. id build it up , (and make it strong) 5 inches, for what you want to do, it will be easier..and stronger, to remove some of the added transom, than to keep adding to it to get the best performance.
