the carbs aren't quite right yet the caps and rotors are all corroded inside, I haven't set the timing yet and I still need to swap in new plugs and wires, BUT she did 45 mph on gps.... 4300 rpm on the port engine and 4400 stbd.... she has more to give but I made a couple passes and got off the water I didn't wanna push my luck since I haven't registered it yet.

DAMMIT it felt good to get on the water!

Re: Maidened the Monte Carlo today!!!

Good for you. Didn't get caught.
I tried a variation of that trick a couple of years ago. My boat was water ready so I put it in for a test to check the cooling system. I didn't have my state required safe boating certificate yet. Just the appointment for the test. When I came upon a Marine Patrol boat I made a wrong move by misjudging my distance and running above headway speed near him. Got stopped, passed equipment inspection, appeared in traffic court, and got a year of boat operator probation with no record once the year was past. Sheesh. I'm glad you didn't have to go through what I did.

$400!?! HOLY COW!! What does Indiana do with all of the money the hijack from boaters?

My 18' costs about $78 to register for 3 years.

Nice looking boat. Congratulations on the maiden voyage.

Re: Maidened the Monte Carlo today!!!

Indiana is one of those states hitting their citizens up for ad valorem (personal property) taxes on every boat and car they own. I think Indiana sales taxes on the initial sale may be less than in states not collecting ad valorem taxes. They'll collect taxes one way or another.

In Alabama, we pay 2 1/2% sales tax and a $28 boat license--no titles on boats here. There are no ad valorem taxes, either. And the state is laying off hundreds of teachers this year for a lack of income.

The Tennessee River is in my front yard, and it's the top inland cruising in the U.S. Great place to retire to.

Nice. One of the few times you can say that you can say "I got her wet" and not get into too much trouble;)

Being a new boat owner myself...this is very inspiring! Mine is currently on the hard having work done. Will hopefully get it wet in about another month.

Re: Maidened the Monte Carlo today!!!

WOW.... I put her in a slip and slept on her in the rain last night and then ran about 60 gallons through her today.... What a good running boat.... total blast to drive and I would have never imagined that a boat that size would carve corners like it does.... If only I could buy gas at 1989 prices I'd be SET lol

The port engine isn't quite as strong as the starboard and doesn't have quite as much oil pressure but it'll do just fine for the time being. I have a third engine I can rebuild and swap in at some later time....

I am also very impressed with the stability at rest... I weigh 235 lbs and I am not used to steping onto a boat without it rocking.

Re: Maidened the Monte Carlo today!!!

Congrats on getting her in the water. Also it sounds like the boat performs well.

The 28 Monte Carlo at my club also has twin 260hp Mercruisers in it. Sounds like it's a fast boat!
