My carbs currently have the .080 fuel jet. I fish lake mead and it is around 1200' elevation here. There is a lake I would like to take my boat to but the elevation there is around 5500'. According to my factory manual it says to run the .080 between 0' and 1500' elevation and at 4,500' to 6000' run the
.074 fuel jet. If I leave the .080 fuel jet in, would I be OK? I would prefer not have to replace the cork gaskets or have to buy the smaller jets. FYI, the other lake has a 5mph speed limit so no WOT. I sure would love to get to the other side of the lake easier and leave my float tube at home.

Re: Main fuel jet

The high speed jet LIMITS the fuel delivered at full throttle, so if you are always going to be at low throttle settings, there wll be almost no difference. At full throttle, the engine will run rich and power will be lost above the decreased power due to altitude. Plugs will also foul faster, but major engine damage is not likely to happen with the large jets. you may need to go down two pitches in prop to compensate for the reduced power if you intend at all to use higher throttle settings. Enjoy your fishing.
