Re: major help needed 5.7 89 flywheel broke

i dont know much but here is my advice.. the guy keeps screwing you because you keep letting him.. you know the old annoying saying.. fool me once shame on you.. fool me twice shame on me.. how many times is it now? i am not trying to insult you just trying to motivate you to take control of this situation..

go to the shop tomorrow morning.. and take your boat back from these idiots.. tell em to go screw themselves and with the help of the people on this board you can without a doubt fix these problems yourself and make sure its done right.. if a total complete idiot like me can swap out a block so can you.. get a manual.. go step by step.. ask questions on this board.. you can get it done..

hullofalotoftrouble. i agree with you about taking my boat back.. but here the deal...
i paid them 2500 down. and owe them 1000.00 total 3500.00 and they supplyed about 800 in parts.
now instead of taking it backk like i was going to do yesterday. i got to get it back and pull the motor. i now live in a row home and cannot do that. i can use marina outside electric and water but no engine lifts around...

reelpoor
Possibly hydrolocked engine. i belive this makes total sense and that's what might have happened. its 6.30 am now and if you guys read this and can give me any more advice i would be greatful..i would rather pay $200 for a flywheel and have them pull engine verses me doing so.

reelpoor how does one get a Possibly hydrolocked engine. and how do you avoid that

Hydrolocked engine = water in cylinders, either through leaking gaskets, cracked block etc. Water does not compress, so when you turn the engine over, the pistons cannot move due to the water and the engine gets stuck. Great deal of force at that moment and things can break such as starter bolts and ring gear???

Your ring gear failure is probably just the symptom of another problem.

Good luck

Rob.

Dude I've been following your saga, at this point you need to cut and run. From what you've said, I would not let that shop tune my wheelbarrow. And the last thing I'd do is let them replace (at my expense) something they screwed up. Do you really trust them to pull the drive and engine, repair the flywheel/ring gear, then re-install it, with out ef'n something else up?? Some thing as simple as checking the alignment may elude them.

As good, and good hearted as the people on this board are, there is nothing they can do but give you advise. It is up to you to act on it. This thing has gotten way, way outt'a hand and I'm afraid the only light at the end of this tunnel is an on coming train. Best of luck to you.

If I understand correctly u just had a new block installed.

If so then the fly wheel should have been inspected upon installation.

It is not your job to pay for the incompidences of the mechanics.

If the owner wants to stay in buissines he needs to hire and pay for experienced mechanics.

But you should not pay. The starter did not eat itself before you brought it to him.

Stick it to him.

limited-windytime. the only way i am looking at it now is i have no where to pull the engine. i live in the city...i paid $2500 up front and owe $1000. their is no dought in my mine they ruined a good flywheel. i got a new one for $80 limited - i want to cut my loses and leave them. how do i pay $3500 and the motor will still have to come out??? i understand you perfectly as i worked for car dealers 10+ years..he's got me by the ball's . if i pull the boat out friday. how do i avoid paying the balance without just stop payment on the check?i know its a long story. sorry for that.i wanted to put the boat out today and if i did it would have to sit their in the marina parking lot all summer.

If he wont discount his screw ups and the time it took. Ask to see his mechanics certifications. They should be hanging on the wall.

1. Inform the better buisness burough.

2. Hang a sign at the local marina, work, ETC..... let em know what shaddy work is being done there.

3. Find a good reputable shop and let everyone know it.

First off screw him, put the shoe on the other foot for a change. The last $1000.00 bucks,(stop payment on the check) he'd get it over my dead body. As for living in the city, for less than $200.00 you can build an A frame out of decking lumber. You can rent or buy a chain fall. (harbor fright) As a driveway project pulling and reinstalling the drive and engine can be done in a weekend. Then the only person who's got you by the "boys" is the wife. Anyhow thats how I'd do it.

with that i am seeing that and starting to agree.
as far as harbor fright.
i live in the city like n.y it cannot be done here.i would have to go somewhere else and pay to wait in line all over again. this will never happen. i made some real bad mistakes choosing this guy. i am not a stupid person. just a good guy who got screwed. over and over. who at age 45 after working on car most of my life said to myself i will pay some one as i will do the small things ...BOY WAS I WRONG

Re: major help needed 5.7 89 flywheel broke

got a flywheel for $80 and dropped it off..told the guy i want it put in right. i want my boat back fast. and i do not care if the drive spins backwards and if its bolted on upside down as i am sick of you..i said everything short of not making me take the boat back with me.without the flywheel installed as i have no garage.
