Steer clear of ebay when you have somebody being as gracious as your guy is! Don't insult the guy! $500 labor is more than reasonable.

Hold on there Pete! He's not being "gracious" at all. That's $500 just to replace the upper and go through the lower. That's not for the steering pin and bellows job. Not from what I am reading. Am I reading that right? Colburn, what happened to the $9700 worth of stuff?

The upper reman and swap out of some lower components would be $3.7k (parts) + $500 (labor). The gimbal pin, bellows and coupler are all additional items. I have worked with the marina and we are at $7.6k, still a hefty amount for me to stomach. If I could get it down to $5k I'd be all in.

Another option would be to sell her. Since the main drive components are damaged anyone know what a sound-454 engine, 96' Crownline 250CR boat 'shell' and trailer go for? If the better option is to sell at a basement bargain it is certainly worth entertaining.

Thanks everyone, I thoroughly enjoy going thru all the posts.

Bubba, he's got a BRAVO drive and the UPPER is the part that is damaged. No such thing as an SEI complete Bravo drive. (only a lower unit and that has beed advised already)
So what you are suggesting isn't possible.

BAM in Florida, Victory in Texas.....maybe a few others.....they sell complete Bravo I's out of the crate ("blems") for about $4,500 plus shipping. Based on that, sounds like your marina is charging a fair price for their work.

Let your conscience be your guide; if your "gut" says to trust 'em, I'd go ahead and pull the trigger. The boat is basically worth little/nothing without a drive.
