If all your worried about is niggling over $500.00 or even a grand between comparable purchases? Well.... let me show you how to build a clock.

Please...please... pleeeeaaaasssseee!!!!!

I can see you like to comment. I appreciate that. Thank you for your remarks. But your comments aren't relevant to my post. If you really don't want to address my post and just wish to make remarks or start side topics maybe you could find another thread to comment to.

I'm trying to get for some constructive responses as I am looking for a boat and while YOU may not agree with whether my question is good, bad, petty, pointless, fair, or otherwise, it's my question and my post and it's the question I'm trying to get answers for because, while the answers I'm looking for may not benefit you, they do benefit me.

So thanks for your comments but I'd really like to hear from others who could put the boats in order. If you can't do that or don't want to, thta's fine, but then would it be possible for you to refrain from posting and trying to start debates, I'm not looking for a debate.

Thanks

I guess if you wait and bait long enough you will get at least one answer you like, canadman.

Please be more courteous to those who are trying to help, without regard to whether you like their answers.

Canadman...We did answer your question, numerous times in fact, in so far as to list them for you, the debate was a by product of your question, which,i may add was to your benefit. If you came across two identical boats both in great shape, you would..by the advice and posts here ,be able to determine which to buy.If what your looking for is a general consensus on EXACTLY what to buy...that,my friend your not going to get.Everyone has opinions, unfortunately also boat quality tends to vary from year to year,as manufacturers get bought and sold alot, also management gets shuffled around. Want a clear answer...Do Your Homework.there's TONS of info on boats out there, use the computer to compare,we only offer our advice and personal knowledge, were not personal shoppers. I'm not trying to blow you off, just making things more realistic.

I was not trying to be discourteous. I use forums all the time for everything from news issues to hobbies. In normal discussion groups, where the purpose of discussion is simply to share opinions and have 'discussion', posts frequently divert to other 'side debates'. iboats I always thought (or at least this is why I've come here) is more of an information resource.

I appreciate the comments pertaining to condition being a main factor. I acknowleged that in an earlier post. But I also pointed out that I understood that and instead was looking for a make vs make comparison all things being equal.

The very next post was a sarcastic stab at mine by JCF350 "If all your worried about is niggling over $500.00 or even a grand between comparable purchases? Well.... let me show you how to build a clock."

You're upset at ME being discourteous? All I was trying to do was get information not spirited debate or sarcastic remarks.

As for answering my question 'numerous times', only two posts (of the 20+) did that. I was hoping others would join in with their 'hierarchy', maybe even adding some other names into the mix like Glastron.

I find it ironic that I'm being scolded for my expectations in this post and am being told I should go on the Internet and do my 'homework' if I want that type of information. I am on the Internet doing just that which is why I came here in the first place, to do my 'homework' - this is iboats, "the #1 site for everything boating". Wouldn't this be one of the places I'd go to do that 'homework'?

Anyway, I really didn't come on here for an argument, quite the opposite. I love boating and had hoped that people on here more knowledgable than I am about boats would be able to provide me some helpful refeference information that might help me buy, beyond the obvious that condition is a critical factor.

For example I read on another thread on here that early Bayliners are said to have been better made than the Bayliners of the 90's. That really helps me. Listing the boats in some hierarchal qualitative list is very helpful as a baseline to go from when starting out a search... that's all I was looking for.

So I won't bother any of you further and I'll move onto another site. thanks anyway... wasn't trying to offend just trying to get some help.

Re: Make Comparison (Bayliner, Celebrity, Four Winns, etc...)

I wouldn't give up on Iboats just yet...when it comes to people who know boats and drive systems, there isn't a bunch of more knowlegable people around...
Now on this topic, this is a very difficult question to answer. Boat builders have changed their techiques and materials significantly over the last 20 years, that's why it's so hard to generalize. You are looking for generalities but in the end the specific boat you wind up with is important. I have a 20 year old Four Winns. They had a good quality rep but this one was neglected. I wound up redoing the stringers and deck. Trust me you do not want to take on that job. It's labor intensive and expensive if you can't do it yourself. My rebuild came out well and I will keep it as long as I can, now I know how well this boat is put together and I can tell you it's much better than when it was built in 1988. I'd go for a well respected make, because it usually has better reale value, but condition is at least as if not more important. For your own good do not consider any boat, with wood decks covered with carpet that looks like it was left out in the rain, or any boat that looks like the plug was left in and the bilge flooded with rain water on the trailer. Those are 2 main types of neglect that used boats will show.

As for me the next one I buy will be a late model, 3-4 years old, of a good rep manufacturer, WELL MAINTAINED!!! Dry storage if possible.

I realize why some people responded to canadman like they did. There are a lot of people that don't reallize they need to inspect all parts of the boat and how to inspect those parts. However, canadman has made it clear he is experienced enough to inspect those parts of the boat.

How about comparing the Four Winns to the Tahoe fish & ski? Is Four Winns way better of a choice?

Make that 5 years . . .

Waster,

Let's let this one die. We discourage digging up old threads here. Very confusing when you realize that the original topic was started 5 years ago. Thanks :)
