Anyone ever made their own?

I'm considering it and wondering who has done it and what experience they can lay on the rest of us 8)

Re: Making 12' aluminum row boat

i think the #1 problem will be sealing any seam. if you use rivets, they have to be closed end, and welding aluminum is a specialized art. i have never seen a home made aluminum boat. i think it would be more costly than it would be worth. if you look around you can find and old 12-14 footer for less the $500. ihave less than $1000, in my 14 ' Lonestar, with trailer, motor, tank, remote steering and controls.

Seams would be sealed by full-length welds, no problem there.

Don't see many used ones around here.
