Hello, I have a '72 Evinrude 125 and want to make a pull string which wraps around the flywheel in its spool for emergency starting if the starter goes out. Can anyone suggest if it is better to use a strong rope, or cable, and how long should it be. I was just thinking that if it was too long and the motor started it might create a dangerous situation of a twirling projectile.<br />Thanks.

yep it does make for very interesting times if the rope is too long and the motor starts, there is a discussion about it here somewhere, get some good stout cord and make it long enough to go around the flywheel about 1 full turn and then enough to be able to comfortably stand and pull the thing, a nice wooden handle will also help, a short piece of broom handle is about right.
