I have the spindles from an bent axle I replaced under my utility trailer. I'd like to use them to make an axle for a small boat trailer. What type of round pipe do I need? Black pipe, galvanized pipe, heavy wall electrical conduit?

HREW or DOM. Wall thickness will depend on the load you are trying to carry, but I wouldn't go lighter than 3/16 in any situation.

If I use 1/4" wall thickness I'll get 1-3/4" OD axle. If I use 3/8" wall thickness I'll get 2" axle.

My Dilly uses a 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" "U" shape, 1/4" thick. With the "U" upside down there's no issue with water entrapment and resulting internal corrosion.

Don't know how heavy your load would be, but mine carries about 800 lbs. of boat & equipment.

That's the style axle of the axle I want to replace and the style of the axle I'm getting the 1" spindles from. The issue with the axle under the boat trailer is the spindles are 3/4". The new axle tube will be around 42" long. My duck boat / jon boat is 700 lbs.
