Hi all,

I have been actively reading all the information on this forum and trying to put it to good use. I picked up a 1955 Lightwin in December and I have spent the winter fixing it up. The little motor had more wrong than I initially thought, hence to title of this thread.

For those that like pictures I have put together a little album of the rebuild process:

Thank you to all for sharing their knowledge !

Thanks guys. Working on the 3 hp was a great introduction to repairing these neat old motors.

Congratulations. Nice motor. Looks like a lot of work, but well worth it. Now go enjoy it. Well, maybe in a week or two. I don't know if your local lakes are open yet. Still some ice down here.

Nice pics. Over the winter I picked up a 3012 that looks the same as that one so I will be doing the same soon :) Hope I don't need a heli coil though :)

HEY! Robmander, I just saw you're from Ottawa! Where do you live? I'm in Chelsea.

Re: Making lemonade

Hi Steve,

I am out in Orleans. I actually emailed you late last year regarding finding parts locally for the other motor I am working on (1959 Johnson 5.5).

Don't fear "the helicoil" They are great ! They really saved the day with little lightwin and seeing how soft the aluminum is on these motors I am sure they will save the day again.

Take it easy,

Rob

Re: Making lemonade

I was in Chapel Hill yesterday for work...

Yep, I recall now... I still have my '59 Johnson 5.5hp apart in a box if you need parts :) Highly unlikely I'll ever put it together again as the main crank brass bushings were kinda beat up...
