Making your own gaskets.....

Back to my old 110 Mercruiser, it has the aluminum manifold with the water jacket bottom plates. Because I had to remove one to fix a crack I now need a gasket, problem is everyone says they are discontinued.

So my question is how would I make my own gasket out of rubber (same as original) to replace the one that was removed?

The marina here told me they had to order my riser gasket set. It was going to take a week, and cost me $18. I didn't want to wait, or pay that much.

I went to Autozone, and got a roll of Felpro rubber-based Gasket material (the blue stuff), and made my own gaskets. I reused the metal plate, and just sealed everything with silicone.

Cost me $6 for enough material to make 15 sets of riser gaskets.

i have make a many of gasket for old cars and things that you just cant get anymore. take your time and do it right and it will work. if your old one was rubber you might try useing a old inter tube

i'd just clean it up real well and fujibond it. It's 3 bond 1215 silicone gasket maker. Also bought at subaru dealerships under fujibond, it's pricey, but works awesome.

It is part #31. I was thinking of 2 options, using high temp silicone made for gasket making, or cutting one from rubber. On the subject, who here would use silicone gasket material on a rubber gasket for the water jacket cover?

id try fujibond..... then if it leaked.... id try something else.... and if something else leaked.... id replace the manifold... but this boat is older than me.

Well I went ahead and used some copper high temp silicone (700 deg) and made the gasket, seems to be holding up so far. I tested today at higher rpms, but die to not idling issues I couldn't letit run for any period of time.
